Air conditioning in SE11

How air conditioning works in SE11

Across SE11, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. You know the price before we start and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and multi-split systems, and people most often call us about old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient and rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night.

We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

How we quote

Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address and the type of property, a few pictures, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Then phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Near you in Vauxhall

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Vauxhall Primary School, Lilian Baylis Technology School and Old Paradise Gardens. Nearby too are St Peter's Church (less than half a mile south), Lambeth Palace Library (0.5 miles north), Lambeth School of Art (under half a mile south) and The Jolly Gardeners pub (less than half a mile north-east). Vauxhall has its own railway station: Vauxhall station. Well-known places in the area include Baynard's Castle (1.7 miles north-east) and Gabriel's Wharf (1.3 miles north). For a walk, there’s Ludgate Hill and St. James's Park Lake.

Air conditioning across SE11

In SE11, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

SE11 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.

Vauxhall: About 1.2 miles north stands Benjamin Franklin House. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If you work from home near Vauxhall station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

Why act early?

For a home or business in SE11, booking the survey now gives time to plan. The installation takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we agree a date that suits you after you’ve accepted the fixed price.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether extra work needs your approval first
  • If the quote is based on a survey, photos or a diagnosis
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
  • What records you get at the end

What the work involves, system by system

Ducted systems

A ducted system needs a ceiling void or loft deep enough for the unit and ducts, and access for servicing. The survey confirms whether there’s room.

Electrical supply

We check the consumer unit on the survey, so the quote covers any electrical work needed. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit and we will tell you if yours does.

What owners can safely do

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

What air conditioning can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Building damp that has a structural cause

SE11: your questions answered

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours and position can affect planning.

Are you F-Gas certified?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?

That depends on what’s being fitted and where. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, while a unit that only cools is not covered and needs checking with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do you size the system?

Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy and we explain the output we recommend.

Is SE11 in your area?

Yes. SE11 is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
