Air conditioning across EC1M: what to expect

Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Common call-outs are for bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer and a loft conversion that’s too warm to use, on multi-split systems, VRF systems and ducted systems.

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

What affects the price in EC1M

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

Air conditioning across EC1M

From Blackfriars outwards, EC1M has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote.

Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

Blackfriars: If you work from home near London Blackfriars station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Older streets near St Ann Blackfriars may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

Different systems, different jobs

Multi-split systems

You can mix indoor unit types on many multi-split systems: a wall unit in one room, a ducted or floor unit in another, as the manufacturer allows. We plan the mix on the survey.

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Offices and shops usually need several units and sensible central controls. We size for the people, equipment and glazing in the space and we plan the installation around your opening hours where we can.

Rented and managed buildings

We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings in EC1M and across Greater London. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.

Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.

After we have gone

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Let filters dry fully before you put them back

Questions after the installation go to the same number. Let us know what’s happening and any error code, and we will talk it through with you.

Book an annual service. A service cleans what you can’t reach and picks up faults before they stop the system, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in EC1M

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
  • The pipe route between the units
  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle

Every job is different, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.

What we need to know

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

EC1M: your questions answered

Can I do any of the installation myself?

The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.

How long will the installation take?

Allow anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. We confirm the time when we quote so there are no surprises.

Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?

It depends on the system and the property. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, so check with the council. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.

Is EC1M in your area?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, EC1M included.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. You’ll usually need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
