Air conditioning in EC1P: how it works
Across EC1P, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or photos for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. You know the price before work begins and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. The work covers ducted systems, VRF systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and people most often call us about uncertainty over the right type and size of system and a system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement.
Every visit follows the same order: agree the plan on site, protect the area, do the work, check the system and explain it all to you. On site, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.
How we quote
The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Air conditioning across EC1P: local notes
In EC1P, we install in places such as Farringdon and Smithfield and well beyond. Every place on our EC1P list (2 in all) is covered.
EC1P is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. You reach the same people wherever you are in it.
Farringdon: If your home is in one of the older streets near St John Clerkenwell, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. Dr Johnson's House, about 0.4 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
Keeping the system healthy
Looking after it is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Keep the room closed while it runs
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
- Book an annual service
The handover includes the records you need: F-Gas records, commissioning details and the manufacturer’s warranty terms. Keep them with the manual as they’re needed for servicing and any warranty question.
Report drips, noises or error codes early. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display normally means something needs attention and catching it early keeps the repair small.
Why it fails
Bedrooms that are too warm at night are a frequent reason for a call. Once a bedroom has soaked up heat during the day, opening a window may not bring the temperature down far enough, particularly when there’s no breeze.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A loft conversion that’s too warm to use
- Working from home in a room that gets too warm
- Expensive direct electric heating
- Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
What happens if it’s left?
If you are thinking about air conditioning for a property in EC1P, there’s no need to wait for a heatwave. Installation takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer, and we agree a date that suits you after you’ve accepted the fixed price.
Comparing quotes
- The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
- Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
When it’s something else
In fairness, some problems need a different answer:
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
Common questions in EC1P
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for problems that can’t wait for a planned visit. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Most of the time, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most of the time. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
In many cases, but permissions come first. You will normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
