Air conditioning across WC1X: what to expect

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, while a two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, with commercial and VRF systems priced after a survey. Typical jobs include rooms heated by plug-in heaters and working from home in a room that gets too warm, on VRF systems, ducted systems and multi-split systems.

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

What you will pay

Where we install in WC1X

Our air conditioning work across WC1X takes in places such as Holborn and Clerkenwell and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for WC1X, 2 in all.

Holborn: Plenty of people near Farringdon station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Alban's Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Different systems, different jobs

Wall-mounted split systems

Single-room split systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Where you sit in that range depends on the pipe run, access and electrics.

Outdoor unit positions

Outdoor units are fitted on wall brackets, at ground level or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs space around it to breathe and for an engineer to work on it.

Keeping the system healthy

How well a system lasts depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Book an annual service
  • File the paperwork with the manual
  • Let filters dry fully before you put them back
  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs

Questions after the installation go to the same number. Tell us what the system is doing, and any code on the display, and we will talk it through with you.

Have the system serviced once a year. A service cleans what you can’t reach and picks up faults before they stop the system, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.

For landlords and property managers

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We are happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.

The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.

What happens if it’s left?

Putting up with another summer of portable units and fans rarely makes sense. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can typically heat as well, so it earns its keep all year.

Your questions about air conditioning in WC1X

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access and the quote says how long to expect.

Which accreditations do you hold?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?

Sometimes. The rules differ for heat pumps and cooling-only air conditioning, and for houses, flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We point out anything that may need permission at the survey, and the council has the final say. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size in WC1X and across Greater London. Let us know who the records should go to.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

What warranty do I get?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
