Our air conditioning service in EC1R

Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Typical jobs include a loft conversion that’s too warm to use and an old system that needs replacing, on multi-split systems, ceiling cassettes and ducted systems.

Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Where we install in EC1R

From Farringdon, Smithfield and Holborn outwards, EC1R has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote.

Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and EC1R sits within it. One phone number covers all of it.

Farringdon: Plenty of people near Farringdon station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. If your home is in one of the older streets near St John Clerkenwell, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

What affects the quote in EC1R

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Whether the existing supply is suitable
  • The size of the job
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where

One room or a whole building, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.

What we need to know

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Any error code or flashing light on the display
  • Your installation or service records
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is

Want a quote for air conditioning? Please ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and tell us about the job. We’ll talk you through the options and give you a fixed-price quote before anything is booked.

Different systems, different jobs

Pipework and condensate drains

We pressure test and evacuate the pipework before the system is charged, so the system starts life clean, dry and leak-tight. It’s recorded in the commissioning details.

Outdoor unit positions

Where outside space is tight, the outdoor unit position shapes the whole design. Every option is checked on the survey and we flag any consent you may need.

Why it fails

Portable units are often where people start, and why they call us. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window can’t close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. A fixed split system puts the compressor outside.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • An old system that needs replacing
  • A room that is unbearable on warm days
  • A portable unit with a hose out of the window
  • A loft conversion that is too warm to use

Safe owner checks

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

EC1R: your questions answered

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

From £1,200 + VAT for a single-room split, with a typical range of £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from photos.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count and the survey covers each of them.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
