Air conditioning across HA4: what to expect
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Common call-outs are for working from home in a room that gets too warm and a portable unit with a hose out of the window, on ducted systems, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems.
Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Local landmarks in Ruislip
Typical jobs here are in properties near Bishop Ramsey School, Warrender Primary School and St Lawrence and the streets around them. You’ll also find Church Field Gardens (0.7 miles west), Heathfield School (0.9 miles east) and J.J. Moon's pub (within half a mile south-west). Ruislip’s nearest station is West Ruislip station, about 1.3 miles west of the centre. A little further out are Heath Robinson Museum (1.5 miles north-east) and St. George's Shopping Centre (3 miles east). Not far away are Horse Shoe Bay and Northala Fields.
Air conditioning across HA4
Planning rules are the same across England, HA4 included: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.
Ruislip: If your home is in one of the older streets near St Lawrence, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. With historic houses such as Ickenham Hall about 1.7 miles south-west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.
System by system
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Commercial rooms often need more than one unit and controls that suit how the space is used. We size for the people, equipment and glazing in the space and we plan the installation around your opening hours where we can.
Electrical supply
We check the consumer unit on the survey, so the quote covers any electrical work needed. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit, and we explain why if so.
Managing agents and facilities teams in HA4
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.
Whether it’s one property or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
What we’re called out for in HA4
Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, which is why a loft bedroom can still be warm at bedtime.
What we’re most often called about:
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
- A system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement
Pricing air conditioning in HA4
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
Homes, offices, shops and public buildings are all priced the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.
What to send for a quote
Good photos often save a visit. Try to include:
- The rating plate or label on any existing unit
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we will come back to you the same working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits you.
Your questions about air conditioning in HA4
Which type of air conditioning is best?
It depends on the rooms and the building. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.
Which brands do you work with?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.
What warranty do I get?
Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years and we explain the terms for your brand on the quote.
