Air conditioning across HA3: what to expect
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Typical jobs include not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in, on ceiling cassettes, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
You do not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from pictures and details for simple jobs.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.
What affects the price in HA3
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Air conditioning across HA3: local notes
From Harrow, Stanmore and Hatch End outwards, HA3 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote.
Message us from anywhere in HA3 and you will hear back the same working day. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead.
Kenton: If you commute from Kenton station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that is needed. If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Mary, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
When something else is needed
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
System by system
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange the inspection and get the system ready for it.
Ceiling cassettes
Ceiling cassettes fit into the ceiling and push air out in several directions and they’re a common choice for offices, shops and larger rooms.
Safe owner checks
Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and call 07833 053749 or send an email.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
Signs you need air conditioning
Bedrooms that are too warm at night are a frequent reason for a call. An open window does not always cool a bedroom that has warmed up all day, particularly when there’s no breeze.
Any of these is worth a proper look:
- A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
HA3: your questions answered
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.
Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?
There’s no single best type. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
When will I hear back?
You will hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. We always look before we price, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
