About air conditioning in UB6

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be, and we explain the options on the survey. The work covers multi-split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and VRF systems, and common reasons people get in touch are a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and a business premises that overheats in summer.

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

What you’ll pay

Safe owner checks

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.

Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

When something else is needed

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • Draughts and missing insulation

What we are called out for in UB6

Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and the heat lingers long after the sun has moved round.

If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A loft conversion that’s too warm to use
  • An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
  • A business premises that overheats in summer

Keeping the system healthy

Systems last better with the right care. We suggest:

  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Close windows and doors while the system is cooling
  • Refit filters properly after cleaning
  • Have the system serviced once a year

An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We’ll remind you when it’s due if you’d like.

Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Blocked filters cut airflow and make the system work harder, which costs you more to run.

Your questions about air conditioning in UB6

Which type of air conditioning is best?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before we start.

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

We install and work on the leading makes, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?

It depends on the system and the property. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, while a unit that only cools isn’t covered and needs checking with the council. Flats, listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Will you need to do electrical work?

Usually, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
