Air conditioning across W3: what to expect
Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation are all included, with commercial and VRF systems priced after a survey. We are often asked to deal with an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers and a room that’s unbearable on warm days, across wall-mounted split systems, multi-split systems and air-to-air heat pumps.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
Pricing in W3

Air conditioning around W3
Planning rules are the same across England, W3 included: cooling-only units are not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and W3 sits within it. One phone number covers all of it.
Acton: Close to Acton Central station? A small study or box room used for work can usually be cooled with a single indoor unit. Gunnersbury Park (roughly 1.4 miles south-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
Leave it or put it right?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
What your quote should include
- The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
- Proof of F-Gas company certification
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
Honest limits
In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
What owners can safely do
Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
What affects the cost of air conditioning
Your quote is based on your property. We take into account:
- How far the pipework has to run, and where
- What kind of system it is
- The size of the job
- What electrical work the job needs
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
Before you get in touch
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
- The make and model of the system, from the label
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from photos and measurements. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Common questions in W3
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From a single let flat to offices, shops and public buildings, we work the same way: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
How quickly will you reply?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
Which type of air conditioning is best?
It depends on the rooms and the building. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.
