How air conditioning works in W11
Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Typical jobs include fans and portables that don’t keep up and an old system that needs replacing, across ceiling cassettes, air-to-air heat pumps and VRF systems.
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. The visit takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- The indoor unit is fixed in place, the outside unit positioned, and the connecting runs put in tidily.
- Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
- Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.
How we quote

Air conditioning across W11
Across W11, from Kensington, Notting Hill and Notting Dale to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. We’re F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps.
Kensington: Plenty of people near Kensington Olympia station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Barnabas, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Keep a note of anything odd: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo of the display helps even more.
System by system
Outdoor unit positions
We think about noise when we choose the spot: keeping it clear of bedrooms and boundaries where we can, and on anti-vibration mounts. Position can also affect planning.
Multi-split systems
You can mix indoor unit types on many multi-split systems, choosing what suits each room, as the manufacturer allows. The survey settles which units go where.
Looking after your system
A little care keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Leave space around the outdoor unit
- Avoid setting it far colder than you need
- Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
- Have the system serviced once a year
We show you how to take the filters out and clean them. In busy periods, clean them every few weeks, or as the manual recommends, and keep space clear around the outdoor unit.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.
What happens if it’s left?
Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088.
Questions to ask before you book

FAQs for W11
Do you cover W11?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes W11.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision, and the position can affect planning.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
When will I hear back?
On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Do you work on all makes?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
For some brands, yes. Send us the make and model and we will tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
Often, yes, but there are extra steps. You’ll normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
