Air conditioning in W9

How air conditioning works in W9

Any installation we do in W9 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. You know the price before work begins and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. The work covers ducted systems, wall-mounted split systems and air-to-air heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are a room that’s unbearable on warm days and portable units that are noisy and barely cope.

Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

What you’ll pay

A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Around Maida Vale

We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around Emslie Horniman's Pleasance, St Peter Elgin Avenue and Essendine Primary School. Also close by are Cecil Sharp House (1.9 miles north-east), Maida Vale School (less than half a mile west), Paddington Academy (within half a mile south-west) and The Warrington pub (within half a mile east). The nearest railway station is Kilburn High Road station, about 0.7 miles north. Other landmarks nearby include Montfichet's Tower (3.9 miles east) and O2 Centre (1.5 miles north). Not far away are Greville Place nature reserve and The Long Water.

Where we install in W9

In W9, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

W9 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.

Maida Vale: Close to Kilburn High Road station? A small study or box room used for work can usually be cooled with a single indoor unit. Living close to St Peter Elgin Avenue? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed-price quote.

After we’ve gone

A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need
  • Book an annual service
  • Never run the system with the filters out

An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We’ll remind you when it’s due, so it does not get forgotten.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.

Before you call an engineer

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.

What affects the cost of air conditioning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
  • The condition of any existing system

Putting several jobs into one visit can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered, and you will get one fixed price.

What we need to know

Good pictures often save a visit. Try to include:

  • The address and the type of property
  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
  • The paperwork from the last service, if you have it

Every quote starts with a look at the job, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from photos and measurements. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Common questions in W9

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

In most cases. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. Every visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.

Do you work on all makes?

We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

How does the warranty work?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some brands make regular servicing a condition so it’s worth keeping the service records.
