Air conditioning in W1H: how it works
We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: survey first, install second, commission and hand over last. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Typical jobs include not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life, across ceiling cassettes, wall-mounted split systems and multi-split systems.
If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before work begins, so you can plan around it. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Ask for a quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
What’s near Hyde Park Estate
Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to North Westminster Community School, Duke Of Kendal pub and Church of St John the Evangelist and the streets around them. Also close by are Hampden Gurney CofE Primary School (under half a mile north-east), International Community School (under half a mile north), Royal Society of Medicine Library (0.9 miles east) and Hyde Park (less than half a mile south-east). The closest station to Hyde Park Estate is London Paddington station, roughly 0.5 miles north-west of the centre. A little further out are Montfichet's Tower (2.9 miles east) and Fortius Clinic (0.7 miles east). The countryside around Hyde Park Estate includes Greville Place nature reserve and The Long Water.
Air conditioning across W1H: local notes
In W1H, we install in places such as Paddington Green, Paddington and Connaught Village and well beyond. We cover every place we list for W1H, 6 in all.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.
Hyde Park Estate: Plenty of people near London Paddington station split the week between the train and a spare room, and that spare room is often the first to get a unit. Homes near Church of St John the Evangelist are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
Keeping the system healthy
Simple habits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Never run the system with the filters out
- Do not cover or box in the outdoor unit
- Have the system serviced once a year
- Report drips, noises or error codes straight away
We clear up before we go: dust sheets lifted, offcuts and packaging cleared, and the holes for the pipework sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed as agreed on the survey.
Use sensible settings. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste, and close windows and doors while it’s cooling.
Rented and managed buildings
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit is written up, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.
For anyone managing more than one building, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.
Why act early?
The outdoor unit’s position is worth getting right first time. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can affect whether planning permission is needed. It’s agreed on the survey, not on the day.
What your quote should include
- What’s in the price and what isn’t
- Whether the quote is a fixed price
- Proof of F-Gas company certification
- If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
How we price air conditioning
Your quote is based on your property. We consider:
- The condition of any existing system
- The pipe route between the units
- The brand, model and parts involved
- A single visit or a regular plan
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before we start.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- The address and the type of property
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from pictures or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
Your questions about air conditioning in W1H
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before booking anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
How long will the installation take?
Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-split, ducted and cassette systems take longer, and we tell you how long on the quote.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
Often, yes, but there are extra steps. You will normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
