About air conditioning in W13

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. We are often asked to deal with fans and portables that don’t keep up and rooms heated by plug-in heaters, across ducted systems, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems.

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.

Get a fixed-price quote

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Local landmarks in Ealing

Typical jobs here are in properties near Library for Iranian Studies, Great Ealing School and Christ the Saviour Church of England Primary School, among other places. Other local landmarks include Ealing Independent College (less than half a mile north), St Saviour's Church (within half a mile east), Walpole Park (less than half a mile north-east) and The Red Lion pub (under half a mile south-east). The nearest railway station is Ealing Broadway station, roughly 0.5 miles north-east. Nearby you’ll also find London Designer Outlet (3.3 miles north) and Gunnersbury Park House - Large Mansion (1.2 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Castlebar Hill and Middle Lake.

Air conditioning across W13

From Ealing, Northfields and South Ealing outwards, W13 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and W13 sits within it. You reach the same people wherever you are in it.

Ealing: Pitzhanger Manor (roughly 0.1 miles east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Living close to St Saviour's Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

When something else is needed

In fairness, some problems need a different answer:

  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • Gas boiler or central heating faults (we don’t work on gas boilers)
  • A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)

Before you call an engineer

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Why deal with it now?

If you are thinking about air conditioning for a property in W13, there’s no need to wait for a heatwave. Installation takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer, and we agree a date that suits you once you are happy with the quote.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What paperwork you’ll receive afterwards
  • Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
  • Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
  • Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved

Rented and managed buildings

Bigger systems bring extra duties: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.

Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We are happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.

Questions from W13

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.

Will I need planning permission?

It depends on the system and the property. In England, an air source heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets set conditions, including the MCS 020(a) noise check, while a unit that only cools is not covered and needs checking with the council. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats have extra limits. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do I know what size unit to get?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

Are you F-Gas certified?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before we start.
