About air conditioning in UB1

Thinking about air conditioning but not sure where to start? Just ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email with photos of the rooms and the outside of the property, and you’ll hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. We’re often asked to deal with old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient and portable units that are noisy and barely cope, across ceiling cassettes, multi-split systems and ducted systems.

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. You receive one fixed figure covering the kit, the fitting and the positions we agreed.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

How to get a quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Air conditioning across UB1

Across UB1, from Southall, Greenford and Yeading to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, UB1 included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Dormers Wells: Around Emmanuel Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. If you work from home near Southall station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.

Different systems, different jobs

Outdoor unit positions

Noise is part of the decision: keeping it clear of bedrooms and boundaries where we can and fitted so vibration doesn’t carry into the building. Position can also affect planning.

Pipework and condensate drains

Cooling produces water as the air is dried, which the condensate drain takes away. Where it can’t fall naturally to a drain, a condensate pump lifts it and we allow for that in the quote.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in UB1

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • How easy the units are to reach
  • What we find on the survey or diagnosis
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How many units are involved

Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. For a fixed-price quote, ring 07833 053749, and we will talk you through it.

Before you get in touch

Good photos often save a visit. Try to include:

  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • The fuse board and where it is in the property

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

What owners can safely do

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Owner care supports servicing; it doesn’t replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Keeping the system healthy

Systems last better with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Avoid setting it far colder than you need
  • Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
  • Close windows and doors while the system is cooling
  • Never run the system with the filters out

Before we leave, the system is commissioned and tested in each mode. Once it’s running properly, we take you through the controls and settings, so you’re confident using it.

Use sensible settings. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste, and close windows and doors while it’s cooling.

UB1 questions

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Where you sit in the range depends on pipe length, access, electrics and the model, while commercial systems are priced after a survey.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Most of the time, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.

When will I hear back?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

Will you make a mess?

We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards when we finish.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
