How air conditioning works in HA1
Across HA1, every installation follows the same steps: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. You know the price before any work starts and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. Typical jobs include a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and a room that’s unbearable on warm days, on air-to-air heat pumps, multi-split systems and ducted systems.
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we let you know if plans need to move. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your pictures or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
What you’ll pay
Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Ask for a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Near you in Greenhill
Around Greenhill, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Northwick Park, Royal Oak pub and Harrow High School. Nearby too are Church of St John the Baptist (under half a mile south-east) and Saint Jerome Church of England Bilingual School (under half a mile north-east). There’s a railway station in Greenhill itself: Harrow-on-the-Hill station. Well-known places in the area include St. Anns (less than half a mile south-west) and Hilfield Castle (4.8 miles north). Open spaces near Greenhill include Masons Field and Northala Fields.
Air conditioning around HA1
In HA1, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units are not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
Enquiries from HA1 get a reply on the working day they arrive. For a breakdown, use the 24/7 line.
Greenhill: If you work from home near Harrow-on-the-Hill station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Headstone Manor (roughly 1.1 miles north-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
Why it fails
Everything that uses electricity in a room ends up as heat. A small office or a busy room can warm up fast with equipment and people in it, even on a mild day.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Too many options and no clear advice
- An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
- Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
System by system
Pipework and condensate drains
The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. We agree the route with you before we drill, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.
Ceiling cassettes
Cassettes are good at even airflow across a large floor area with just a grille visible in the ceiling.
What happens if it’s left?
A system that’s the wrong size never works well. An undersized unit runs hard and still cannot keep the room cool; too big, and it switches on and off and wastes energy. Getting the sizing right at the survey stage avoids both problems.
Comparing quotes
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
- What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
What affects the cost of air conditioning
Your quote is based on your property. We consider:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The brand, model and parts involved
- How easy the units are to reach
- What kind of system it is
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.
What to send for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.
HA1: your questions answered
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Most of the time, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.
How soon will you get back to me?
On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Which type of system should I choose?
There’s no single best type. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.
Do you work on commercial properties?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting and managing agents, and businesses of every size across London and the South East. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.
