Air conditioning across WD6: what to expect

Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Just call us on 07833 053749 with pictures of the rooms and the outside of the property, and you will hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. The work covers ducted systems, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems, and the jobs we see most are a loft conversion that’s too warm to use and commercial rooms that are too warm for staff.

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.

How we quote

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Air conditioning across WD6: local notes

In WD6, we install in places such as Borehamwood, Elstree and Deacon's Hill and well beyond. Every place on our WD6 list (7 in all) is covered.

Refrigerant work is done by F-gas qualified engineers for a certified company, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval.

Borehamwood: Wyllyotts Manor (roughly 4.3 miles north-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. If your home is in one of the older streets near All Saints church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

For anyone managing more than one building, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so the files stay tidy.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.

Before you call an engineer

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

What air conditioning can’t fix

We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Central heating repairs

Why act early?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg can’t use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.

What your quote should include

  • Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
  • Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
  • If the figure could change on the day
  • Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why

WD6: your questions answered

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

Typically, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

It takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.
