Air conditioning in RG19: how it works
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. The work covers multi-split systems, wall-mounted split systems and ceiling cassettes, and common reasons people get in touch are rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in and an old system that needs replacing.
There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
What you will pay
One room or a whole building, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. You’ll have a fixed price before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Air conditioning around RG19
In RG19, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
Message us from anywhere in RG19 and you will hear back the same working day. For a breakdown, use the 24/7 line.
Thatcham: Around United Reformed Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. Shaw House, about 2.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
Why deal with it now?
A system that’s the wrong size never works well. Too small, and it runs flat out without catching up; an oversized one cycles on and off and wastes energy. Getting the sizing right at the survey stage avoids both problems.
Comparing quotes
- Exactly what the price includes, from supply and fitting to commissioning
- If the figure could change on the day
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
- Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
Different systems, different jobs
Pipework and condensate drains
Cooling produces water as the air is dried, and the condensate drain carries it away. Where it can’t fall naturally to a drain, a condensate pump lifts it, and we plan that on the survey.
Wall-mounted split systems
Bedrooms, offices and living spaces are where wall-mounted units are most often fitted. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access rather than blowing straight at the bed or desk.
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we will tell you before we start. It will not put right:
- A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
Common problems we fix in RG19
Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:
- Too many options and no clear advice
- A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
- A room that is unbearable on warm days
- A business premises that overheats in summer
Common questions in RG19
How much is air conditioning for one room?
A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, with supply, fitting, commissioning and F-Gas documentation included. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Typically, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. For simple jobs, pictures and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will agree what happens next.
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you work in RG19?
Yes. Our engineers work in RG19, as part of our area across London and the South East. We are based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
