Our air conditioning service in RG18

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Typical jobs include uncertainty over the right type and size of system and fans and portables that don’t keep up, across wall-mounted split systems, ducted systems and multi-split systems.

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

What you’ll pay

One room or a whole building, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Get a fixed-price quote

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Hermitage: Around Holy Trinity, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. Shaw House, about 3.4 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Safe owner checks

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

What air conditioning cannot fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem

What we’re called out for in RG18

Bedrooms that are too warm at night are a frequent reason for a call. An open window does not always cool a bedroom that has warmed up all day, particularly when there’s no breeze.

What we are most often called about:

  • An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm
  • Fans and portables that don’t keep up

What the work involves, system by system

Ceiling cassettes

For wide rooms, a cassette spreads the air more evenly than one wall unit, and the slim grille sits neatly in the ceiling.

Wall-mounted split systems

A single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Long pipe runs, difficult access and a new circuit affect where your job sits in the range.

Questions from RG18

Do you cover RG18?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, RG18 included.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for problems that can’t wait for a planned visit. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we’ll tell you what the manufacturer expects, and book the service at the interval they recommend.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
