What happens on the day

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Hermitage easier.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Advice

Air source heat pumps in Hermitage, done properly

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day so the system is sized to match. Sizing by rule of thumb isn’t good enough. If the problem is questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and deciding on the outdoor unit position, we can help.

If your home in or near Hermitage is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.

Looking after a system is mostly common sense: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Hermitage questions

Is Hermitage within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Do you cover Hermitage for air source heat pumps?

We do: Hermitage falls inside our working area. Tell us a little about the job and we’ll take it from there.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We confirm the timing after the survey, and you can phone us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form to book it.

How quickly will you reply?

On the same working day you contact us. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?

That depends on your home and the unit’s position. Flats have tighter limits, conservation areas add conditions, and Article 4 directions can remove rights, so we check during the survey.

How much VAT is charged on a heat pump in a home?

Heat pumps in homes carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, with 5% from 1 April 2027. It does not apply to businesses, and this is general information rather than tax advice.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Why deal with it now?

Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air is easier with the facts. Air-to-water works with radiators and a cylinder, with a £7,500 grant for eligible homes, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms and has a £2,500 grant only in limited cases. We explain which makes sense for you. Planning ahead for a job in Hermitage means we can bring everything needed.

Our prices page shows typical ranges, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

After we have gone

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep to regular servicing
  • Check what your manufacturer’s warranty asks of you
  • Check eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme early

Handover includes the controls and how to get the best from a heat pump. Heat pumps tend to work best running steadily rather than in short bursts so we set the controls up with you.

Have the system serviced regularly. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

When to call us in Hermitage

Homes with electric heating sometimes look at heat pumps as an alternative. A survey shows whether a heat pump suits the property and what would need to change, and we explain the grant position for your home.

Reasons to give us a call include:

  • Finding a place for the outdoor unit
  • Checking eligibility for a heat pump grant
  • Working out whether radiators need upsizing

Older homes near Holy Trinity may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

What to look for in a quote

  • What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
  • Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
  • Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
