What an install looks like in Oare
About 85% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. With homes like that, finding a sensible outdoor unit position is rarely hard, and a multi-split lets two or more rooms run off it.
Homes near Church of St Bartholomew are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.

For a home in or near Oare, an air-to-air system can cool in summer and heat in the cooler months, which suits garden rooms, lofts and extensions that the main heating struggles with.
Refrigerant work is written up in the F-Gas records: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, as a manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

What affects the cost of air conditioning
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
- The condition of any existing system
- The size of the job
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.
Before you get in touch
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- The address and the type of property
Want a quote for air conditioning? Please ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and tell us about the job. We’ll explain what we’d recommend and why, then send a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.
How it works
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to Oare.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.
Preparing for the visit
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Let us know where the consumer unit is
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Advice
Also in Oare
Do you need air conditioning in Oare?
Commercial spaces gain heat from people, equipment, lighting and glazing. Comfortable staff and customers are the usual reason businesses get in touch, along with keeping equipment rooms at a steady temperature.
What we’re most often called about:
- An old system that needs replacing
- Expensive direct electric heating
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
Shaw House (roughly 4 miles south-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
What to look for in a quote
- What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
- If the figure could change on the day
- If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
Oare questions
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in Oare?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The half-mile around the middle of Oare holds about 3 listed buildings and structures. Permitted development only covers heat pumps that aren’t used solely for cooling, and not within the grounds of a listed building. Conservation areas add limits on outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Oare, usually West Berkshire council).
Do you cover Oare for air conditioning?
Yes. Oare is one of the places we cover. Just ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form with a few details.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
How long does it take to fit air conditioning?
Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-room and ducted systems take longer, depending on the pipe routes and access, and we tell you how long on the quote.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Every visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well?
In most cases, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
When it’s something else
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Central heating repairs
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.
