How air conditioning works in RG20
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and the jobs we see most are a loft conversion that’s too warm to use and a system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
- Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
- Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.
What affects the price in RG20
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

Where we install in RG20
In RG20, we install in places such as Newbury, Speenhamland and Kingsclere and well beyond. We cover every place we list for RG20, 51 in all.
We reply to enquiries from RG20 the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.
Kingsclere: A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call. Older streets near Church of St Mary may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
Let and managed properties
We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.
Whether it’s one property or many, you get the same standard: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.
System by system
Ceiling cassettes
For wide rooms, a cassette spreads the air more evenly than one wall unit, and the slim grille sits neatly in the ceiling.
Wall-mounted split systems
A single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. Where you sit in that range depends on the pipe run, access and electrics.
When it’s something else
To be straight with you, some problems need a different answer:
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- Draughts and missing insulation
- Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
Why act early?
New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088.
What your quote should include
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
- Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
- What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
Your questions about air conditioning in RG20
What warranty do I get?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours and position can affect planning.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. If something urgent happens, like water coming from a unit or a critical room overheating, call our 24/7 line and we will agree what happens next.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.
Which type of system should I choose?
It depends on the rooms and the building. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.
Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?
Sometimes. The rules differ for heat pumps and cooling-only air conditioning, and for houses, flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We point out anything that may need permission at the survey and the council makes the decision. This is general information, not legal advice.
