Air conditioning in RG14: how it works
Any installation we do in RG14 follows the same process as everywhere else we work: a site survey, or pictures for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Common call-outs are for rooms heated by plug-in heaters and portable units that are noisy and barely cope, on wall-mounted split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ducted systems.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
How we quote
A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You’ll have a fixed price before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.
Why book with us
- Clear warranty information from the manufacturer
- Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval
- MCS certification for heat pump work
- Checkatrade member
Get a fixed-price quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, pictures of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What’s near Newbury
Around Newbury, our work takes us to homes and businesses near St Nicolas Church, Victoria Park and St Bartholomew's School and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Diamond Tap (less than half a mile north-east), St Nicolas C.E. Junior School (within half a mile south) and St Bartholomew's School (0.6 miles south-west). Newbury has its own railway station: Newbury station. Nearby you will also find Donnington Castle (1.6 miles north-west) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (1.5 miles east). Open spaces near Newbury include Audrey's Meadow.
Air conditioning across RG14
Across RG14, from Newbury, Speenhamland and Shaw to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
We reply to enquiries from RG14 the same working day, with a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns.
Newbury: Close to Newbury station? A small study or box room used for work can normally be cooled with a single indoor unit. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Nicolas Church, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
Common problems we fix in RG14
In shops, offices and restaurants, the heat comes from customers, staff, equipment and lighting as well as the sun. Comfortable staff and customers are the usual reason businesses get in touch, along with keeping equipment rooms at a steady temperature.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
- Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
- Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
- Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in RG14
Typical ranges are on our prices page, but every job is priced on its own. What we look at:
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- The pipe route between the units
- The size of the job
- Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed price.
What to send for a quote
Good photos often save a visit. The most useful are:
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- The make and model of the system, from the label
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
Let and managed properties
Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we will copy in whoever needs it.
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.
What happens if it’s left?
Planning ahead beats a rushed decision in a heatwave. A rushed choice is often the wrong size or in the wrong place, and that’s hard to put right later. A survey now gives time to choose properly.
What your quote should include
- The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
- Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- Proof of F-Gas company certification
Questions from RG14
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Will you make a mess?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.
How long does air conditioning installation take?
It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. The survey tells us how long your installation will need, so you can plan around it.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Do you work in RG14?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, and that includes RG14.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
