Homes in Whitley and air conditioning
About 31% of homes in the Whitley area were built between the wars, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures. Homes of that age usually have cavity or solid brick walls, and we check which before planning the pipe route. About 38 miles out from central London, Whitley is part of the South East area we work across.
A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call. Homes near St Agnes are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
Whitley is about 1 mile west of Earley, in Reading. Our engineers cover Whitley for air conditioning and across the rest of Reading. In Reading alone we list 34 places and Whitley is among them. We also work in Guildford, around 21 miles away.
The closest recent job we can point to from Whitley was on Princess Way, Camberley (GU15), about 12 miles south-east: installing a Samsung VRF system serving twelve rooms across two floors, including open-plan working areas, individual offices, a server room and a boardroom. See the job
We cover homes and businesses on Litton Road, Totnes Road and Winton Road and the roads around them. If your postcode is in RG2, RG1 and RG19, we can take the job on. If you are just outside Whitley, we cover Whitley Wood (1 mile south), Earley (1 mile east), Green Park (1 mile west), Great Lea Common (1 mile south-west) and Reading (2 miles north-west). Larger places within reach include Caversham (3 miles north), Norcot (4 miles north-west), Tilehurst Within (4 miles north-west) and Arborfield Garrison (4 miles south-east).

Sizing is where cheap installs go wrong: the survey covers room size, glazing, insulation and how the room is used, so the unit isn’t too big or too small.
Around Whitley, older cottages and newer houses can be very different to work on. Thick walls, low ceilings and beams need care with pipe routes, and if the home is listed, consent comes before any work.
Looking after a system is mostly common sense: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. That also helps where the warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

How the job changes from property to property
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Larger buildings may suit VRF, which runs many indoor units from shared outdoor units. Commercial and VRF systems are priced after a survey, with the design explained in the quote.
Pipework and condensate drains
We pressure test and evacuate the pipework before the system is charged, which keeps moisture and air out of the circuit. The results go into the commissioning records.
Pricing air conditioning in Whitley
Typical ranges are on our prices page, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- What electrical work the job needs
- Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we will explain what it covers.
Before you get in touch
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- The rating plate or label on any existing unit
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- The address and the type of property
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Records are where property maintenance often slips. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records wherever refrigerant work is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.

How the visit works
Every visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, protect the area, carry out the job, check the system and talk you through it. On site, the work takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Seeing the property in pictures first helps us plan the trip to Whitley.
- First comes a site survey, or photos and measurements for a straightforward job.
- Each room is sized and you get a fixed-price quote setting out the equipment and the unit positions.
- The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
- The electrical supply is connected, and the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated.
- We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.
Preparing for the visit
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Clear access to the fuse board
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process

Your questions about air conditioning in Whitley
Do you cover Whitley for air conditioning?
We do: Whitley falls inside our working area. To start, ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form with a few pictures.
Is Whitley within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Do I need planning permission?
Sometimes. Heat pumps and cooling-only units are treated differently, and so are flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We flag anything that may need permission when we survey, and the council has the final say. This is general information, not legal advice.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Most of the time, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
