How air conditioning works in RG2
Think of it as diagnose, treat and sign off: survey first, install second, commission and hand over last. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Typical jobs include a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer and expensive direct electric heating, on wall-mounted split systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes.
The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we clear up before we go.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you will pay
Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.

Air conditioning across RG2: local notes
In RG2, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
We reply to enquiries from RG2 the same working day, with a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns.
Shinfield: Stratfield Saye House, about 4.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. Living close to Church of St Mary the Virgin? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.
What air conditioning can’t fix
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Central heating repairs
- Building damp that has a structural cause
- Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
Why deal with it now?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
Comparing quotes
- Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
- Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
- Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
- What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
Safe owner checks
Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
System by system
Electrical supply
The fuse board is looked at during the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit, and we explain why if so.
Multi-split systems
A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. The route from the outdoor unit to each room is the main variable.
Questions from RG2
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.
Is RG2 in your area?
Yes. Our engineers work in RG2, as part of our area across London and the South East. We’re based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
Will you make a mess?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Do you work on all makes?
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.
Is air conditioning possible in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
How quickly will you reply?
You’ll hear from us the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
