About air conditioning in N13

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. The work covers ceiling cassettes, ducted systems and VRF systems, and common reasons people get in touch are too many options and no clear advice and working from home in a room that gets too warm.

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your photos or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, the work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.

What the work involves, system by system

Wall-mounted split systems

Wall-mounted units suit bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and small commercial rooms. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access, and away from where the air would blow straight onto people.

Pipework and condensate drains

Air conditioning takes moisture out of the air when it cools, which the condensate drain takes away. If gravity will not do it, a condensate pump is fitted and we allow for that in the quote.

Why it fails

Not everyone is after cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. Most modern split systems work this way.

It’s time to call us if you’re dealing with:

  • A business premises that overheats in summer
  • Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
  • A loft conversion that is too warm to use
  • An old system that needs replacing

When something else is needed

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
  • A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling

Pricing air conditioning in N13

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How many units are involved
  • How easy the units are to reach
  • What kind of system it is
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle

No two properties are the same, so we price each one individually. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
  • The make and model of the system, from the label
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light

For a fixed-price quote, ring 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the property and what you need. Photos help a lot. You’ll hear back from us the same working day.

Questions from N13

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. The survey tells us how long your installation will need, so you can plan around it.

Where does the outdoor unit go?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Send us the make and model and we’ll tell you what the manufacturer expects and stick to the interval they set.

Do you cover N13?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, N13 included.

Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
