Our air conditioning service in CR9

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust makes the same point: an air-to-air heat pump is what many people simply call air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. We’re often asked to deal with rooms heated by plug-in heaters and rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night, on multi-split systems, wall-mounted split systems and ducted systems.

Protection comes first: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby, and we ask before moving anything. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access, and we clear up before we go.

  1. First comes a site survey, or pictures and measurements for a straightforward job.
  2. Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

Air conditioning across CR9

Our air conditioning work across CR9 takes in places such as Croydon, Woodside and Ashburton and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for CR9, 12 in all.

Refrigerant work is done by F-gas qualified engineers for a certified company, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval.

Croydon: Close to South Croydon station? A small study or box room used for work can usually be cooled with a single indoor unit. If your home is in one of the older streets near St Andrew's, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you can’t see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

Why it fails

Computers, screens, lighting and people all give off heat. A small office or a busy room can warm up fast with equipment and people in it, even on a mild day.

If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in

Why deal with it now?

Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A fixed system removes the heat to the outside, runs more quietly in the room and can usually heat as well, so it earns its keep all year.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
  • Whether the electrical work is done by a registered contractor, such as NICEIC approved
  • Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
  • Whether extra work needs your approval first

Pricing air conditioning in CR9

The survey or diagnosis tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • The number of rooms, units or zones
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. You will have a fixed price before work begins, with VAT shown clearly.

Questions from CR9

Are you F-Gas certified?

We are an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

Often, yes, but there are extra steps. You will usually need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy and we explain the output we recommend.

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

We agree it with you on the survey. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.

Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?

Most of the time, yes. Running as a heat pump, it moves heat in from outside rather than making it from electricity alone. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

Is the equipment covered by a warranty?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
