How air conditioning works in BR2
We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. At sign-off, the system is tested in each mode, the controls are explained and the F-Gas records are left with you. Typical jobs include not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and an old system that needs replacing, on VRF systems, wall-mounted split systems and multi-split systems.
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- The sign-off: commissioning, a walk through the controls, and the F-Gas records and warranty details.

Local landmarks in Bromley
We fit and service air conditioning in homes and premises around St Mark's Church of England Primary School, The Richmal Crompton pub and Holy Trinity College Bromley. You’ll also find Bullers Wood School for Boys (1.2 miles east), Church of St Peter and St Paul (less than half a mile north) and Church House Gardens (less than half a mile north-west). There’s a railway station in Bromley itself: Bromley South station. A little further out are The Mall (less than half a mile east) and Bromley Hospital (within half a mile south-east). Open spaces near Bromley include Downham Woodland Walk and Summer Hill.
Air conditioning across BR2
Across BR2, from Bromley, Chislehurst and Plaistow to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
BR2 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.
Bromley: Living close to Church of St Peter and St Paul? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. Bromley Palace, about 0.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
What owners can safely do
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.
When something else is needed
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Central heating repairs
- Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
Let and managed properties
If you look after several properties, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the paperwork can go to both.
Signs you need air conditioning
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
BR2 questions
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We’ll work out which band applies to yours.
Do I need a new electrical circuit?
Most of the time. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.
How quickly will you reply?
On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that cannot wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.
