Air conditioning across BR6: what to expect
We approach an installation much as a doctor approaches a patient: the survey diagnoses what the rooms need, the installation is the treatment and commissioning is the sign-off. The sign-off includes testing every mode, showing you the controls and handing over the F-Gas records. The work covers ducted systems, air-to-air heat pumps and wall-mounted split systems, and the jobs we see most are an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life and a loft conversion that’s too warm to use.
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can normally work room by room or zone by zone. The work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
Pricing in BR6
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, pictures of the rooms or units, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, phone 07833 053749 or send an email.

Air conditioning across BR6
In BR6, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
Our area stretches from Greater London through Surrey, Kent and Sussex to Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and BR6 sits within it. One phone number covers all of it.
Broom Hill: If you work from home near Orpington station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Bromley Palace (roughly 3.7 miles north-west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly:
- Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
- File the paperwork with the manual
- Close windows and doors while the system is cooling
- Book an annual service
An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Regular filter cleaning is the simplest thing you can do. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, so it uses less electricity for the same comfort.
What happens if it’s left?
A system that’s the wrong size never works well. An undersized unit runs hard and still cannot keep the room cool; an oversized one cycles on and off and wastes energy. Sizing each room properly on the survey avoids both.
What your quote should include
- What records you get at the end
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
Different systems, different jobs
Pipework and condensate drains
We pressure test and evacuate the pipework before the system is charged, so the system starts life clean, dry and leak-tight. The results go into the commissioning records.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Larger buildings may suit VRF, which runs many indoor units from shared outdoor units. VRF and larger commercial jobs are priced after a survey, with the design explained in the quote.
What we are called out for in BR6
Portable units are often where people start, and why they call us. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window can’t close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. With a split system, the compressor lives outside.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A study or office that overheats during the day
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Expensive direct electric heating
- Too many options and no clear advice
Your questions about air conditioning in BR6
Which type of air conditioning is best?
Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
For some brands, yes. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.
Can air conditioning heat my home as well?
In most cases, yes: modern splits are normally heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust points out that an air-to-air heat pump is often just called air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.
