About air conditioning in DA14

Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Typical jobs include rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in and rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night, on wall-mounted split systems, ducted systems and multi-split systems.

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

What affects the price in DA14

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

From Orpington, Sidcup and Bexley outwards, DA14 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.

DA14 is part of a working area that runs from Greater London to the Sussex coast and out to Oxfordshire and Essex. You reach the same people wherever you are in it.

Sidcup: Close to Sidcup station? A small study or box room used for work can normally be cooled with a single indoor unit. Living close to Holy Trinity Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

Managing agents and facilities teams in DA14

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.

We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Tell us who the contact on site is and who should receive the paperwork and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.

What affects the quote in DA14

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • The number of rooms, units or zones
  • Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
  • The condition of any existing system

What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, the access and the parts and time the job needs. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • A few photos of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

What the work involves, system by system

Outdoor unit positions

Outdoor units are fitted on wall brackets, at ground level or on a flat roof, depending on the property and the pipe route. It needs airflow around it and room for servicing.

Ducted systems

Ducted air conditioning hides the indoor unit in a ceiling void or loft, with only neat grilles showing in the room. It’s popular where people do not want a unit on the wall.

Safe owner checks

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

FAQs for DA14

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Most of the time, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

It takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. The survey tells us how long your installation will need, so you can plan around it.

Do you work on all makes?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For a new system, we suggest the make and model that suit the property and tell you why.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We’ll tell you what to check before we fit it.

Why does F-Gas certification matter?

The law says any company working on equipment containing F gas has to be certified, and each engineer needs the right qualifications too. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
