Air conditioning servicing in Bromley: the local picture

The Bromley Town Centre Conservation Area is within about a third of a mile of the centre of Bromley. There are 6 conservation areas within a mile of the centre of Bromley. On the National Heritage List, around 30 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Bromley; Church of St Peter and St Paul (grade II*) is one. That only matters for replacements, where a new outdoor unit on a protected building can need consent. About 37% of homes in and around Bromley were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax records, and the 2021 Census found about 53% of households live in flats. If you live in a flat, mention any roof hatch, balcony or managing agent we will need to get to the outdoor unit. In London, a yearly clean of the outdoor coil makes a real difference to how well a system cools.

Offices and shops near Bromley South station can have their systems serviced without closing. If you look after a school such as St Mark's Church of England Primary School, servicing is easiest in the holidays.

Air conditioning servicing in Bromley

Whether a leak check is required depends on how much refrigerant the system holds and which refrigerant it is. Under the GOV.UK rules, 5 to under 50 tCO2e means a leak check at least every 12 months, and 50 to under 500 tCO2e means every 6 months. We tell you which band your system falls into and carry out the checks it needs. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and ducted systems, and people most often call us about an unpleasant odour when the system runs and frost or ice on the refrigerant pipes.

Systems in Bromley often run in both summer and winter, so a yearly service keeps them efficient. In London, outdoor coils collect dust, grime and leaves, which a service clears.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

Your questions about air conditioning servicing in Bromley

Do you cover Bromley for air conditioning servicing?

We do: Bromley falls inside our working area. Get in touch with the details and we reply the same working day.

Does my air con in Bromley need a yearly service?

Normally once a year for homes, more often for busy business systems. Some manufacturers’ warranty terms ask for regular servicing, so it’s worth keeping the records.

When will I hear back?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Does my air conditioning need an F-gas leak check?

The requirement starts at 5 tCO2e. Plenty of small splits sit under it, as 3 kg of R32 works out at about 2.0 tCO2e. We read the charge from the label and work it out for you.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Can I have a maintenance contract for my air conditioning?

Yes, for homes and businesses. The visits, what each covers and the price are agreed with your quote and the servicing happens on time.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

When it’s something else

Air conditioning servicing can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before any work starts. It will not put right:

  • Installation faults that need reworking
  • Lost refrigerant, where the fix is a leak repair
  • Rooms that gain heat faster than any unit could cope with

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Ducted systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

How it works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes a short visit for one split system, longer for multi-split, ducted or commercial plant. Parking bays, permits and roof or balcony access are the first things we ask about in Bromley.

  1. We start with the details of the system and anything you’ve noticed.
  2. Each indoor unit has its covers lifted so the filters, coil and tray can be cleaned.
  3. The outdoor unit is cleaned and checked, and debris cleared from around it.
  4. We test the electrics, the controls and how the refrigerant circuit is performing.
  5. Anything we find is explained, with a fixed price if it needs a repair.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

Wall-mounted, ducted and cassette units

Ducted units sit out of sight in ceiling voids. We need access to the unit, its filters and its drain so it helps to know where the access is before we arrive.

Filters

When filters fill with dust, less air moves through the system. That makes it harder for the system to reach the temperature you’ve set, which is why filters are always part of the service.

What a customer said

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
