Our air conditioning service in HP5

Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Common call-outs are for a room that’s unbearable on warm days and commercial rooms that are too warm for staff, across ceiling cassettes, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems.

You don’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

What affects the price in HP5

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and the price is agreed before we start.

Why book with us

  • A 24/7 emergency line
  • One contact for properties across the South East and London
  • Manufacturer’s warranty terms explained on your quote
  • Electrical work covered by our NICEIC approval

How to get a quote

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Near you in Chesham

Typical jobs here are in properties near The Jolly Sportsman pub, Elmtree Infant and Nursery School and Chiltern Hills Academy and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Amersham station, about 2.6 miles south. A little further out are Amersham Hospital (3.4 miles south) and Hawridge Court (2.2 miles north). Not far away are Sands Bank.

Where we install in HP5

In HP5, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, HP5 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.

Chesham: Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are usually the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start. With historic houses such as Cholesbury Manor House about 3.5 miles north-west, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.

Keeping the system healthy

A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Leave space around the outdoor unit
  • Shut doors and windows when it’s on

You get the paperwork that matters: the commissioning details, the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information. File them together, because the manufacturer or a future engineer may ask to see them.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

What the work involves, system by system

Offices, shops and commercial rooms

Commercial rooms often need more than one unit and controls that suit how the space is used. Sizing takes account of occupants, equipment and windows, and plan the work so the business keeps running.

Electrical supply

A dedicated circuit is normally needed. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate, which takes care of the Part P notification.

What air conditioning can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Building damp that has a structural cause
  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
  • A room that can’t take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)

For landlords and property managers

From a single flat to a whole estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.

Common questions in HP5

How long will the installation take?

It takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. We confirm the time when we quote, so you can plan around it.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that cannot wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the job needs and how to do it and the fixed price is built on it.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Under Part P, a new circuit has to be notified unless a registered competent person does it, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
