About air conditioning in HP3
Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and the jobs we see most are a room that’s unbearable on warm days and a system on old refrigerant that’s due for replacement.
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- We survey the property, or work from your pictures for a simple job.
- The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.
What you’ll pay
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed price.

Landmarks near Apsley
Around Apsley, our work takes us to homes and businesses near The Oddfellows Arms, Two Waters Primary School and Gadebridge Park. Air conditioning across HP3: local notes
Our air conditioning work across HP3 takes in places such as Hemel Hempstead, Grovehill and Woodhall Farm and the smaller places around them. Every place on our HP3 list (17 in all) is covered.
Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, with a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns.
Apsley: High Elms Manor, about 4.1 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. If you commute from Apsley station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.
Before you call an engineer
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Rented and managed buildings
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed-price quote.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit is written up, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.
System by system
Ducted systems
Ducted units can feed several rooms through a network of ducts, and they’re easiest to fit while ceilings are open, such as during a refurbishment.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Commercial rooms often need more than one unit and controls that suit how the space is used. Sizing takes account of occupants, equipment and windows, and plan the work so the business keeps running.
When it’s something else
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
- Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
HP3 questions
How do you size the system?
Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy, so we explain why we have chosen a particular output.
Are you F-Gas certified?
F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we are Checkatrade members. Engineers who handle refrigerant hold their own F-gas qualifications as well.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
We start with protection: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.
Is air conditioning possible in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours and position can affect planning.
