Our air conditioning service in HP8
Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. Typical jobs include expensive direct electric heating and too many options and no clear advice, on ducted systems, VRF systems and multi-split systems.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where necessary.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

Air conditioning around HP8
Planning rules are the same across England, HP8 included: cooling-only units are not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, HP8 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.
Chalfont St Giles: Chenies Manor House (roughly 3.5 miles north-east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Older streets near Parish Church of St Giles may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
When something else is needed
Not every problem is solved by air conditioning, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:
- Gas boiler or central heating faults (we do not work on gas boilers)
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
Signs you need air conditioning
Rooms overheat mostly because of heat they gain during the day. Sun through large windows, roof lights and glazed doors is the biggest source in many rooms, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
- A loft conversion that is too warm to use
- An office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers
- A room that’s unbearable on warm days
Let and managed properties
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated record, plus the F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved, so you can show what was done and when.
Where a tenant occupies the property but the landlord owns the system, it’s worth checking the agreement for who looks after the system. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.
Looking after your system
To keep the system working properly:
- Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
- Book an annual service
- Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
The filters are the one part you will look after yourself, so we show you how. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, or as the manual recommends, and keep space clear around the outdoor unit.
Do not ignore small changes. A drip, a noise or a flashing light is often an early sign of a fault and catching it early keeps the repair small.
HP8 questions
Do you work in HP8?
Yes. We work in HP8 and the rest of Buckinghamshire, as part of our area across London and the South East. To book, ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is a legal requirement, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?
Not necessarily. On a house, air-to-water heat pumps and, since 2025, air-to-air systems that heat as well as cool can be permitted development if they meet the conditions. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it usually comes up, and we tell you at the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
How does the warranty work?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some brands make regular servicing a condition so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Most of the time, yes: modern splits are normally heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
How do you size the system?
Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count and the survey covers each of them.
