How air conditioning repair works in Reading
When air conditioning stops cooling, leaks water or shows an error code, the symptom rarely tells you the cause. Warm air can mean anything from a dirty filter to a sensor, board or refrigerant fault, which is why diagnosis comes first. We are often asked to deal with a system that won’t switch on and a unit that barely blows any air, across ceiling cassettes, wall-mounted split systems and heat pumps.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes an hour or two to diagnose most faults, with the repair time depending on what we find.
- We start with what the unit is doing, the make and any code.
- The engineer diagnoses the fault on site, testing rather than guessing.
- We explain the cause in plain English and give you a fixed price.
- Once agreed, the repair goes ahead.
- We test the system in operation and leave you a note of the fault and the fix.
What affects the price in Reading
The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Air conditioning repair across Reading: local notes
From Caversham, Norcot and West Reading outwards, we repair air conditioning across Reading. We find the fault first and price the repair before work begins.
We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, Reading included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.
Caversham: If the display shows a code, write it down: it helps narrow down the fault. For a school like The Hill Primary School, urgent repairs can be booked straight away and bigger work in the holidays.
Let and managed properties
Facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings book us too across Reading. Larger buildings can be done in stages to keep disruption down.
Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.
What owners can safely do
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
What happens if it’s left?
Small faults rarely stay small. A drip can turn into a damaged ceiling, and a slow leak can leave the compressor straining and early diagnosis usually keeps the repair simpler.
What your quote should include
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- Why the equipment they’re quoting suits the job
- Whether the quote shows VAT clearly
- Whose warranty applies, and on what terms
What the work involves, system by system
Multi-split systems
Refrigerant leaks on a multi-split can be anywhere on several pipe runs. We test each run to find it, then repair, pressure test and recharge.
Condensate drains and pumps
Most water leaks from indoor units come back to the condensate system. Blockages, kinks and failed pumps are the usual causes, and a unit that is not level can spill water too.
Reading: your questions answered
Why is my air conditioning showing a fault code?
The code is the system’s own clue to the fault, but it is not the whole answer. Note the code and switch the system off if it is not working, then ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email.
Do you offer an emergency repair service?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 with the make, what’s happening and any code, and we’ll agree the next steps with you.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before booking anyone and we will gladly show you ours.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. You get a written record of every visit, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Which accreditations do you hold?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
My system uses R22. Can it be repaired?
Servicing with new R22 is not allowed, because it depletes the ozone layer. A fault that does not involve the refrigerant may still be repairable, depending on parts, but a refrigerant leak typically means replacement. We will set out the options and quote for a replacement where it makes sense.
