What affects the cost of air conditioning repair

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • The size of the job
  • The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
  • What electrical work the job needs

Every job is different, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all make a difference.

What to send for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business

Want a quote for air conditioning repair? Please give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and tell us about the job. We’ll talk you through the options and give you a fixed-price quote before you commit to anything.

About our air conditioning repair in Play Hatch

Refrigerant doesn’t get used up, so a low charge means a leak somewhere. Simply adding gas means it will leak away again. We locate the leak, repair it, test, evacuate and recharge and write it up in the F-Gas records. The work covers multi-split systems, heat pumps and VRF systems, and the jobs we see most are a flashing light and a system that won’t run and rattling, buzzing or grinding noises.

Around Play Hatch, repairs tend to be home systems, garden rooms and a few businesses. A photo of the unit’s label and a description of the fault help us plan.

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Rented and managed buildings

Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Under the GB F-gas rules, responsibility for leak checks is shared between whoever operates the equipment and the engineers who work on it. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system and we’re happy to deal with whoever it is.

Play Hatch: your questions answered

Is there an emergency air con repair line for Play Hatch?

The emergency line is open around the clock, and Play Hatch is one of the places it covers. Have the make, model and error code ready, and we’ll talk you through what happens next.

Will you come out to Play Hatch?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Why is not my air con cooling?

It can be anything from a dirty filter to a refrigerant leak. Diagnosis confirms the cause, then give you a fixed price to fix it.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

My system uses R410A. Can it still be repaired?

Yes. We find and fix the leak, then recharge with R410A and record it in the F-Gas records and we will give you an honest view on whether it’s worth it.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes anything from an hour or so to a full day, depending on the fault and the parts. Work in Play Hatch is booked in advance at a time that suits you.

  1. Diagnose: test the system until the cause is clear.
  2. Next, a plain explanation and a fixed price.
  3. If the repair isn’t worth doing, we say so and explain the options.
  4. Then the fix, with leaks repaired before any refrigerant is added.
  5. Sign off: prove it works and record the visit.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Advice

Safe owner checks

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Access to the outdoor unit is the one detail that most changes how a visit is planned.

If the display shows a code, write it down: it helps narrow down the fault. If a system fails at a school such as St Martin's Catholic Primary School, our 24/7 line takes the call, and planned repairs can wait for the holidays.
