Air conditioning repair in the Isle of Wight: how it works
A sealed system shouldn’t lose refrigerant, so a low charge means a leak somewhere. Simply adding gas means it will leak away again. We locate the leak, repair it, test, evacuate and recharge and write it up in the F-Gas records. Common call-outs are for a unit that barely blows any air and a system that needs topping up again, across ceiling cassettes, VRF systems and heat pumps.
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, and that takes as long as the fault needs, from a quick fix to a return visit for parts.
- You tell us the symptoms, the make and any error code.
- On the diagnosis visit, we test the electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant.
- You get the cause explained and a fixed price for the repair.
- With your go-ahead, we carry out the repair, recording any refrigerant work.
- We test the system in operation and leave you a note of the fault and the fix.

Air conditioning repair around the Isle of Wight
From Newport, Ryde and Cowes outwards, we repair air conditioning across the Isle of Wight. The diagnosis comes first, then a price for the repair.
We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, the Isle of Wight included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote. In the coastal parts of the Isle of Wight, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing, and some manufacturers offer corrosion-protected coils.
Newport: For a school like Nine Acres Primary School, urgent repairs can be booked right away and bigger work in the holidays. If the display shows a code, write it down: it helps narrow down the fault.
Leave it or put it right?
The rules on refrigerant affect repairs. Repairing and recharging existing R410A systems is still legal, but R410A is getting scarcer and dearer to buy as the GB phase-down tightens and we weigh that up when we advise you.
Questions to ask before you book
- What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
- What paperwork you’ll receive afterwards
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
What air conditioning repair can’t fix
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A room that overheats because of the building, such as a lack of shading or ventilation (the system may need help, not a repair)
- A unit whose parts are no longer made (replacement may be the only option)
- No power to the building at all
Rented and managed buildings
For anyone managing more than one building, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so each one has its own history.
Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.
Looking after it afterwards
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Check the settings and the remote’s batteries first
- Only let an F-Gas qualified engineer work on the refrigerant
- Write down the fault code if there is one
- Clear debris away from the outdoor fan
After a repair, the basics matter: clean filters every few weeks in heavy use and space around the outdoor unit. A yearly service catches problems before they become breakdowns.
Small changes are worth acting on. Drips, noises, weak airflow and error codes are early warnings, and early diagnosis typically means a smaller repair.
The Isle of Wight: your questions answered
How does the warranty work?
Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
Why is my air conditioning blowing warm air?
It can be anything from a dirty filter to a refrigerant leak. Diagnosis confirms the cause and you get a fixed price before the repair.
Do you look at the job first?
Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
How much is an air conditioning call-out?
Diagnosis call-outs start from £75 + VAT. Once we know the cause, you get a fixed price for the repair before any work goes ahead. The final cost depends on the fault, the parts and the access.
What does the error code on my air conditioning mean?
An error code points us in the right direction, but testing confirms the cause. Write down the code and turn the unit off if it has stopped, and ring 07833 053749.
