Air conditioning repair for homes and businesses in Shide
Older systems raise a fair question: repair or replace?. A fan fault on an older unit can be worth fixing, while a compressor failure may tip the balance. We look at the fault, the parts, the refrigerant and how well the system suits the room, then give you an honest view. The work covers ducted systems, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and the jobs we see most are rattling, buzzing or grinding noises and a unit that barely blows any air.
Outdoor units around Shide often sit near hedges, trees and lawns, where leaves and cuttings can clog the coil and cut the cooling. That’s one of the first things we check.
Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Bigger systems bring extra duties: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings across the Isle of Wight. Work can be phased by floor, zone or building around the people who use them.
What air conditioning won’t do
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what air conditioning repair won’t do:
- A power cut or a fault on the incoming supply to the building (that is for the network operator)
- An old system with obsolete parts
- A refrigerant fault on an R22 system (new R22 cannot be used for servicing, so replacement is normally the answer)
Not sure which it is? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

Air conditioning repairs in Shide: local notes
The middle of Shide is part of a conservation area. Historic England lists about 47 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Shide, including Roman Villa (grade I). That only matters for replacements, where a new outdoor unit on a protected building can need consent. The 2021 Census found about 66% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Access to the outdoor unit is the one detail that most changes how a visit is planned.
A photo of the error code and the unit’s rating label helps us plan the repair. If a system fails at a school such as Nine Acres Primary School, our 24/7 line takes the call, and planned repairs can wait for the holidays.
Shide is about 1 mile south-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We cover Shide for air conditioning repair and across the rest of the Isle of Wight. Count every place we list in the Isle of Wight and you reach 125, with Shide on the list. Our Worthing page covers places nearby (40 miles or so).
Shide sits on or near the A3020, which makes travel easy. If your postcode is in PO30, the property is within reach. We also work in nearby towns such as Ryde (6 miles east), Cowes (5 miles north), Sandown (6 miles south-east) and Shanklin (7 miles south-east). For island and remote properties, the visit takes a little more planning, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

What we do, step by step
The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes an hour or two to diagnose most faults, with the repair time depending on what we find. Photos of the room and the outside wall help us plan a job near Shide.
- Tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and send a photo of the display if you can.
- The engineer reads the fault codes and checks the electrics, airflow, drain and refrigerant circuit.
- Nothing is repaired until you’ve heard what’s wrong and agreed a fixed price.
- The fix goes in, with any refrigerant work tested and written into the F-Gas records.
- Before leaving, we run it through its modes and write up what was found and done.
Preparing for the visit
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Tell us about parking and loading

To help us quote: the address and the type of property, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Then phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly:
- Ask for the leak to be found, not just a top-up
- Write down the fault code if there is one
- Turn the system off if it’s dripping water
Where a repair isn’t worth doing, we say so, and explain why. We can quote for a replacement system on the same visit where that’s the better answer.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything blocking the outdoor unit makes the whole system strain, and debris can get into the fan.

Questions from Shide
Do you cover smaller places like Shide?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Do you cover Shide for air conditioning repair?
Yes. Shide is one of the places we cover. Just phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk with a few details.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before booking, and we are happy to show ours.
How much is an air conditioning call-out?
The first step is a diagnosis, from £75 + VAT, followed by a fixed price for the repair. You decide before any repair work starts.
Do you work on systems someone else installed?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
