- Comparing heat pump types
- A boiler that’s getting old
What happens on the day
The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your photos or the details you gave us. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. A few pictures help us make the most of a visit to New Zealand.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Preparing for the visit
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
How to get a quote
Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. Homes, businesses and different kinds of work can be treated differently for VAT, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. To get one, call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

About our air source heat pumps in New Zealand
Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. The conditions include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³ and compliance with MCS 020(a), and the unit can’t be used solely for cooling or sit within the curtilage of a listed building. We look at the planning position for your home during the survey. The work covers radiator systems, air-to-water heat pumps and hot water cylinders, and people most often call us about questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and working out whether radiators need upsizing.
Homes around New Zealand typically have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

After we’ve gone
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Avoid switching the heat pump on and off often
- Book a yearly service
- Ask about the grant before you commit
If you were eligible for a grant, we handle the application and keep you updated since the grant goes through the installer.
Have the system serviced regularly. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.
New Zealand questions
Will you come out to New Zealand?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in New Zealand?
Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including New Zealand, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays and any changes are in the quote.
How quickly will you reply?
You will hear from us the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Can I do the refrigerant work myself?
The refrigerant side has to be done by a qualified engineer working for an F-Gas certified company. That’s a legal requirement, and it also matters for the manufacturer’s warranty. We’re happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.
What warranty do I get?
The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Honest limits
Air source heat pumps can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- Improving the building’s insulation
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
If you are not sure, just phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
Bigger systems bring extra duties: a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor is required at least every 5 years for systems over 12 kW. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.
What a heat pump looks like in New Zealand
At about 38 miles from central London, New Zealand sits inside the area we cover across London and the South East. There are 2 conservation areas within a mile of the centre of New Zealand. Historic England lists about 12 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of New Zealand, including Church of St Mary (grade I). That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where needed, we check with Buckinghamshire council, typically the planning authority here.
If your home is near Aylesbury station and heated by a gas boiler, an air-to-water heat pump can replace it where the survey shows it suits. Live in one of the older houses around St Peter's? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
