About our air conditioning in New Zealand
Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, and a well-chosen system can earn its keep all year round. Air conditioning installation in New Zealand starts with a site survey, followed by a fixed-price quote with the brand, model and every part of the job set out.
Around New Zealand, many people choose a system that heats as well as cools, which suits rooms the main heating doesn’t reach well, such as a garden room or loft.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Do you need air conditioning in New Zealand?
Poor sleep is one of the most common reasons homeowners ask about air conditioning. An open window does not always cool a bedroom that has warmed up all day, especially on a still night.
Reasons to give us a call include:
- Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
- Fans and portables that do not keep up
- A system on old refrigerant that is due for replacement
If you commute from Aylesbury station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Your questions about air conditioning in New Zealand
Do you cover smaller places like New Zealand?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in New Zealand?
It depends on the property. Historic England lists about 12 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of New Zealand. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones can’t, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the planning department at Buckinghamshire council, usually the authority for New Zealand.
How long will the installation take?
Allow about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before booking and we’ll gladly show you ours.
How do you size the system?
Sizing is done on the survey, room by room. An undersized unit never catches up, and an oversized one cycles and wastes energy and we explain the output we recommend.
Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.
Looking after it afterwards
Aftercare is straightforward, and it helps at the next service:
- File the paperwork with the manual
- Shut doors and windows when it’s on
- Avoid setting it far colder than you need
An annual service keeps the system running efficiently, and some manufacturers make servicing a warranty condition. We will remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Report drips, noises or error codes early. Water from the indoor unit, a new rattle or a code on the display usually means something needs attention and catching it early keeps the repair small.
The process
There’s very little for you to do on the day. Someone needs to let us in and show us the units, or where they’re going, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we’ve done. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to New Zealand easier.
- We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- We commission, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas and warranty paperwork.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
Getting a price
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
- A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
