Air conditioning across HP19: what to expect

Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, ceiling cassettes and ducted systems, and the jobs we see most are a loft conversion that’s too warm to use and uncertainty over the right type and size of system.

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
  2. Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

What you’ll pay

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

What you get with us

  • One contact for properties across the South East and London
  • 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns
  • MCS certified heat pump installers

Get a fixed-price quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Air conditioning across HP19: local notes

Across HP19, from Aylesbury, Elmhurst and Southcourt to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. We survey every property before we quote.

We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, HP19 included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Haydon Hill: Homes near Fairford Leys Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. Waddesdon Manor (roughly 4.1 miles west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

Looking after it afterwards

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
  • Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use

Commissioning is the last stage: every mode is tested before we go. Once it’s running properly, we take you through the controls and settings so you know how to get the best from it.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

Why it fails

Not everyone is after cooling. Direct electric heaters convert electricity into heat one for one, while an air-to-air heat pump moves heat from outside, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. That’s how most modern split systems work.

What we are most often called about:

  • An old system that needs replacing
  • Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
  • A portable unit with a hose out of the window

Leave it or put it right?

A system that is the wrong size never works well. Too small, and it runs flat out without catching up; an oversized one cycles on and off and wastes energy. Sizing each room properly on the survey avoids both.

Questions to ask before booking

  • The make and model of any parts or equipment being quoted
  • Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
  • What’s in the price and what is not
  • Proof of F-Gas company certification

System by system

Pipework and condensate drains

After the pipework is fitted, the refrigerant circuit is pressure tested and evacuated, so the system starts life clean, dry and leak-tight. The results go into the commissioning records.

Electrical supply

The fuse board is looked at during the survey, so the quote covers any electrical work needed. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit, and we explain why if so.

FAQs for HP19

How long will the installation take?

It takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. The survey tells us how long your installation will need so there are no surprises.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is recorded, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Which brands do you work with?

We work with the leading brands, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

Do I need planning permission?

Not always. Permitted development can cover a heat pump on a house, including an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools since 2025, provided the conditions are met. Cooling-only units, listed buildings, flats and road-facing spots in conservation areas are where it typically comes up and the survey picks it up. This is general information, not legal advice.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?

It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, wherever the pipe route, airflow and servicing access work best. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. We confirm the heating function of the model we quote.
