About our air source heat pumps in California
Until 31 March 2027, a heat pump installed in residential accommodation carries 0% VAT, with 5% from 1 April 2027. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it doesn’t apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. If you’re dealing with checking whether planning permission is needed and finding a place for the outdoor unit, we can sort it out.
If your home near California has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

California: your questions answered
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in California?
California is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Will you come out to California?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.
Which accreditations do you hold?
We are an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
Not the refrigerant work. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim, so we explain the terms on your quote.
Homes in California and heat pumps
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 36% of homes in and around California were built in 2000 or later. Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. Roughly a third of a mile or less from central California, you reach the Aylesbury Town Conservation Area. In the mile around California’s centre, 2 conservation areas have been designated. About 163 listed entries lie within half a mile of central California, Church of St Mary (grade I) among them. That affects heat pumps: listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit where the outdoor unit can go under permitted development. Where necessary, we check with the planning team at Buckinghamshire council, which normally handles California.
Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Mary? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. Homeowners near Aylesbury station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that.
California is about 1 mile south of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire. Wherever you are in the HP21 postcode area, we cover air source heat pumps. Count every place we list in Buckinghamshire and you reach 263, with California on the list. The nearest of our city pages is London, around 38 miles from California.
You’ll find California on the A41 and A418, which makes it straightforward for our engineers to reach. If your postcode is in HP21, HP20 and HP19, we can take the job on. Close to California, our area also takes in Aylesbury (1 mile north), Walton (1 mile east), Queens Park (1 mile east), Southcourt (1 mile south) and New Zealand (1 mile north). We also work in nearby towns such as High Wycombe (13 miles south), Chesham (11 miles south-east), Buckingham (15 miles north-west) and Amersham (13 miles south-east).
Landmarks near California
Around California, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Pebble Brook School, Buckinghamshire UTC and King's Head Inn and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in California itself: Aylesbury station. A little further out are Friars Square (less than half a mile north-east) and Dinton Castle (3.4 miles west). For a walk, there’s Beacon Hill.
Owner checks or an engineer?
Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.
How it works
There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we have done. A few photos let us plan a visit to a place like California.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
How to prepare
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.
For anyone managing more than one building, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so the files stay tidy.
What affects the cost of air source heat pumps
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- How many units are involved
- What electrical work the job needs
Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.
What to send for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749.
From one of our customers
“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
