About air conditioning in SW3
Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. Which one suits you depends on the space, the building and how much of the unit you want to see, and we explain the options on the survey. The work covers VRF systems, ducted systems and multi-split systems, and common reasons people get in touch are too many options and no clear advice and a home office that warms up with screens and equipment.
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you will pay
One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before we start, with VAT shown clearly.

Air conditioning across SW3: local notes
Planning rules are the same across England, SW3 included: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
Enquiries from SW3 get a reply on the working day they arrive. Breakdowns can go to the 24/7 line instead.
Brompton: Carlyle's House, about 0.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. If your home is in one of the older streets near Church of St Simon Zelotes, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install.
Signs you need air conditioning
Most overheating comes from heat gained through the day. Sunshine through glazing, especially on south and west-facing rooms, adds a lot of heat, and once the room has warmed up, it holds on to it into the evening.
Look out for any of the following:
- Not knowing which system, size or brand to choose
- A study or office that overheats during the day
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
After we’ve gone
So the system stays in good health:
- Have the system serviced once a year
- Let filters dry fully before you put them back
- Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
We recommend an annual service, and some manufacturers make regular servicing a condition of their warranty. We can remind you when it’s due if you’d like.
Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.
Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in SW3
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
- Access, including height, roofs and ladders
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will explain each part.
What to send for a quote
Good photos often save a visit. Try to include:
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
- The address and the type of property
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.
Honest limits
We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:
- A building fabric problem such as single glazing or no loft insulation
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
FAQs for SW3
How much is air conditioning for one room?
For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. The price is fixed before we start.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, 24/7. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.
Are you F-Gas certified?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so it’s worth checking. Keep every service record either way.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
