Air conditioning in SW6: how it works

Across SW6, every installation follows the same steps: a site survey, or pictures for simple jobs, then a fixed-price quote, the installation, commissioning and F-Gas records. You know the price before work begins and the paperwork is in your hands when we finish. The work covers VRF systems, multi-split systems and ceiling cassettes, and people most often call us about an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers and working from home in a room that gets too warm.

We keep the work area tidy as we go, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. Any holes, fixings or cable routes are agreed with you before we drill. The visit takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

What you will pay

The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

Get a fixed-price quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, call 07833 053749.

Air conditioning around SW6

Planning rules are the same across England, SW6 included: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.

We are based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, SW6 included. Each job starts with a survey and a fixed-price quote.

Fulham: Around St. Peter's Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install. About 0.7 miles south-west stands Fulham Palace. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one.

How we price air conditioning

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but every job is priced on its own. What we look at:

  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • What state the existing equipment is in
  • Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
  • What electrical work the job needs

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every unit or room you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed price.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • The remote or wall controller showing any error
  • The address and the type of property

Every quote starts with a look at the job, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

What we’re called out for in SW6

Computers, screens, lighting and people all give off heat. A small office or a busy room can warm up fast with equipment and people in it, even when it is not especially hot outside.

What we are most often called about:

  • Too many options and no clear advice
  • An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
  • Portable units that are noisy and barely cope
  • A room that is unbearable on warm days

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Let us know who will give us access and who the records should go to, and we will keep everyone informed.

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

When something else is needed

Air conditioning can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It does not solve:

  • Stuffy rooms that need fresh air rather than cooling
  • Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
  • An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet

FAQs for SW6

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Which type of system should I choose?

The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

What accreditations do you have?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re members of Checkatrade too.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
