About air conditioning in SL5

Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, two rooms on a multi-split £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Those ranges include supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. Common call-outs are for not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and a loft room or top floor that bakes in summer, on ducted systems, ceiling cassettes and air-to-air heat pumps.

Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. The visit takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How we quote

A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Getting a price

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from a site survey or, where the job is straightforward, from pictures and measurements. After that, we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we begin.

Air conditioning across SL5: local notes

From Bracknell, North Ascot and The Warren outwards, SL5 has every kind of home. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.

We reply to enquiries from SL5 the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

North Ascot: Older streets near Chapel of St Mary and St John may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes. St Leonard's Hill, about 3.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Why it fails

Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.

If any of these sounds familiar, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A business premises that overheats in summer
  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters

Why deal with it now?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg can’t use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether extra work needs your approval first
  • Whether the quote is a fixed price
  • What the manufacturer’s warranty covers and for how long
  • If the quote is based on a survey, photos or a diagnosis

When something else is needed

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Central heating repairs
  • A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)

System by system

Multi-split systems

Indoor units on a multi-split don’t all have to look the same: a wall unit in one room, a ducted or floor unit in another, depending on the model. The survey settles which units go where.

Wall-mounted split systems

A wall-mounted split is the most common choice for a single room. One unit inside, one outside, connected by pipework, a cable and a drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Your questions about air conditioning in SL5

Does air conditioning work as heating?

Typically, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before you book and we’ll gladly show you ours.

When will I hear back?

The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Will you make a mess?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.

Which accreditations do you hold?

As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. We are also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
