  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • A grant for a home that doesn’t meet the scheme rules

Not sure which it is? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Radiator systems

Air source heat pumps in Winford, done properly

In England, an air source heat pump on a house can often go in under permitted development rights. The conditions include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³ and compliance with MCS 020(a), and the unit cannot be used solely for cooling or sit within the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. Typical jobs include radiators that may be too small for a heat pump and ageing boilers that will need replacing, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating.

Homes around Winford normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. File it with the manual, because it helps with any later warranty question.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work and nothing is moved without asking you. Then the electrics are made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes, and we clear up before we go. If a lane or gateway near Winford is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.

  1. First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
  2. The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
  3. We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time

Winford questions

Will you come out to Winford?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Winford?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Winford is in England, where it applies. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

What’s the price of a heat pump installation?

An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 to eligible homes in England and Wales though not every home qualifies.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. Air-to-air doesn’t heat hot water, and we explain which suits your home.

Which brands do you work with?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.

Looking after your system

Looking after it is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Find out the grant position at the survey
  • Check what your manufacturer’s warranty asks of you
  • Leave indoor units unobstructed

Equipment warranties come from the manufacturer. We go through the conditions with you, including any servicing they ask for.

Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

Heat pumps in Winford: local notes

At about 2 miles from the coast, Winford is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the coast, we choose the outdoor unit position with salt-laden wind in mind. Census 2021 figures found about 83% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. The centre of Winford lies within a conservation area. For a heat pump, permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with Isle of Wight council, usually the planning authority here where necessary.

If your home is listed, like Haseley Manor about 1.4 miles north-west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work. Period properties close to All Saints' Church can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.

Winford is about 5 miles south of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Winford gets the same approach as every job we take on: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote and written records at the end. Count every place we list in the Isle of Wight and you reach 125, with Winford on the list. For properties nearby, see our Worthing page (37 miles or so).

Streets in the area include Chambers Drive, Alverstone Road and Woods Drive, and we cover them all. Our working area takes in PO36, every street of it. Places around Winford that are also on our list: Branstone (1 mile west), Apse Heath (1 mile south), Princelett (1 mile south-west), Newchurch (1 mile north) and Hale Common (1 mile west). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (5 miles north-west), Ryde (5 miles north), Cowes (9 miles north-west) and Ventnor (4 miles south). For island and remote properties, the visit takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
