About our air source heat pumps in Newport
A heat pump takes heat from the outside air and moves it into your home with electricity running the compressor and fans. It works on the same principle as air conditioning, run the other way, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. Typical jobs include no space for a hot water cylinder and choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air, across hot water cylinders, air-to-water heat pumps and air-to-air heat pumps.
Plenty of older homes in Newport can run on a heat pump, though some need bigger radiators or better insulation first. We work that out from a heat loss calculation.
Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Newport questions
Is a heat pump in Newport permitted development?
It depends on the property. The centre of Newport is in a conservation area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for Newport, normally Isle of Wight council).
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Newport?
Newport is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.
Do you work in Newport?
Yes. We work in Newport and the rest of the Isle of Wight, within the London and South East area we cover. To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
Will you make a mess?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
Which type of heat pump is right for my home?
The right choice depends on the property and what you need. Air-to-water can attract a £7,500 grant where eligible; air-to-air only qualifies for £2,500 under strict conditions, and we set out the options after the survey.
Owner checks or an engineer?
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales: £7,500 for air-to-water and ground source, and £2,500 for air-to-air in limited cases. The application goes through the installer.

Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Newport
You will get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. You will have a fixed price before work begins, and the quote sets out the VAT.
Before you get in touch
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
Here’s what helps us quote: the address and the type of property, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Then ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
What happens on the day
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. On site, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. In a town like Newport, parking is normally straightforward, so the main questions are access and timing.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you are eligible for and the VAT explained.
- The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about parking and loading
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
Getting a price
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To start, phone 07833 053749.
