Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Ventnor
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers which means some radiators may need upsizing. We check each radiator against the room’s heat loss and anything that needs changing is in the quote. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps and underfloor heating, and common reasons people get in touch are replacing a combi boiler with a heat pump and comparing heat pump types.
For a house near Ventnor, space outside is rarely the problem, so heat loss, radiators and the electrics are what we check.
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, MCS certified for heat pumps and a Checkatrade member. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

How the visit works
Every visit follows the same order: check the plan with you, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we have done and talk you through it. The visit itself takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Ventnor can normally be finished in one visit.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Before we arrive
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
Ask for a quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
Advice
Safe owner checks
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.
Air source heat pumps in Ventnor: the local picture
Ventnor lies within about 1 mile of the sea. For a heat pump near the sea, ask about any coastal protection option the manufacturer offers. The middle of Ventnor is part of a conservation area. On the National Heritage List, around 63 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of Ventnor; The Old Manor House (grade II*) is one. For a heat pump, permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the planning team at Isle of Wight council, which typically handles Ventnor where necessary. About 47% of homes in and around Ventnor were built before 1919, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures. Period properties can still suit a heat pump, but the design has to start from accurate heat loss figures.
Historic houses such as Rylstone Manor, about 2.6 miles north-east, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. Live in one of the older houses around St Catherine's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
Ventnor is about 8 miles south-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We cover Ventnor for air source heat pumps and across the rest of the Isle of Wight. Count every place we list in the Isle of Wight and you reach 125, with Ventnor on the list. Worthing is in our area too, about 39 miles from Ventnor.
All of PO38 is covered. Whether you are on Old Station Road, Market Street and High Street or a nearby road, our engineers can take on the work. If you are just outside Ventnor, we cover Steephill (1 mile south-west), Bonchurch (1 mile east), St Lawrence (1 mile west), Wroxall (2 miles north) and Luccombe Village (2 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Newport (8 miles north-west), Ryde (9 miles north), Cowes (12 miles north) and Sandown (5 miles north-east). For island and remote properties, the visit takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

Outdoor unit position and planning
Under permitted development, the outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less and must meet MCS 020(a) and not be used solely for cooling. It cannot be within the curtilage of a listed building.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants towards heat pumps: £7,500 for air-to-water and ground source, and £2,500 for air-to-air in limited cases. The application goes through the installer.
Your questions about air source heat pumps in Ventnor
Is Ventnor within the area you cover?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Does sea air affect air conditioning in Ventnor?
It can. Ventnor is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Am I eligible for a heat pump grant?
We check the scheme rules for your property before you go ahead. The installer applies for the grant, so we handle the application if you’re eligible.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
What does an air-to-water heat pump cost?
An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes) before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 to eligible homes in England and Wales, and we confirm eligibility before you commit.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
Heat pumps in homes carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, with 5% from 1 April 2027. Businesses pay the standard rate, and this is general information rather than tax advice.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. Every visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. File them with the system’s paperwork.
Rented and managed buildings
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is, and we can work for either side.
Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
