Air conditioning near Ventnor

About our air conditioning in Ventnor

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. Which one suits you depends on the space, the building and how much of the unit you want to see, and we explain the options on the survey. Most split systems we fit in Ventnor are reversible: in heating mode they work as an air-to-air heat pump, so a system bought for summer earns its keep in winter too.

The outdoor unit position is the biggest single decision: we balance airflow, noise, the pipe run and access for future servicing.

Around Ventnor, older cottages and newer houses can be very different to work on. Thick walls, low ceilings and beams need care with pipe routes, and if the home is listed, consent comes before any work.

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What an install looks like in Ventnor

The coast is only about 1 mile from Ventnor. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so we site them out of the worst of the sea wind where we can, and can suggest models with corrosion-protected coils where the manufacturer offers them. About 47% of homes in Ventnor and the neighbourhoods around it were built before 1919, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures. Older properties often mean solid walls and period details, so pipe runs are planned to stay neat and out of sight.

Homes near St Catherine's Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. Rylstone Manor, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Ventnor is about 8 miles south-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Ventnor gets the same approach as every job we take on: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we’ve finished. Ventnor is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight we cover. There’s also a page for Worthing, about 39 miles away.

From Old Station Road, Market Street and High Street to the smaller roads in between, nowhere is left out. Our engineers cover all of the PO38 postcode area for air conditioning and the roads nearby. Places around Ventnor that are also on our list: Steephill (1 mile south-west), Bonchurch (1 mile east), St Lawrence (1 mile west), Wroxall (2 miles north) and Luccombe Village (2 miles north-east). Further out, we also cover Newport (8 miles north-west), Ryde (9 miles north), Cowes (12 miles north) and Sandown (5 miles north-east). Remote and island properties need a little more planning, so please mention your location when you ring us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Ventnor questions

Do you cover smaller places like Ventnor?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Can I fit air conditioning in Ventnor without planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. A conservation area takes in the middle of Ventnor. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and isn’t used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof isn’t allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask the local planning authority (for Ventnor, normally Isle of Wight council).

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the job needs and how to do it, and the quote is based on that.

Will you make a mess?

We start with protection: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.

Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?

It depends on the building and the lease. Balconies, flat roofs and rear walls can all work, subject to consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. Ask to see proof before you book anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.

Keeping the system healthy

Once we have finished, these simple steps help:

  • Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
  • Book an annual service
  • Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean

The filters are the one part you will look after yourself, so we show you how. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, or as the manual recommends, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.

Keep the outdoor unit clear. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

What affects the quote in Ventnor

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders
  • The size of the job

Putting several jobs into one visit often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed price.

Before you get in touch

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
  • Your installation or service records

Quotes do not take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

The process

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. After that, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Ventnor can normally be finished in one visit.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
  3. Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
  4. Power is wired in, the joints are proved leak-tight under pressure and a vacuum pump draws out air and moisture.
  5. We commission the system, show you the controls and leave the F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty details.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area

Getting a quote

To help us quote: the address and the type of property, photos of the rooms or units, the make and model of any existing system and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Once you have those, phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Advice

Safe owner checks

Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keeping the outdoor unit clear, checking the mode and set temperature, and the routine cleaning in the manual. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

What a customer said

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
