About our air conditioning in Sandown
Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. When someone in Sandown asks us for air con, the first questions are typically price and who will fit it. Our typical prices are on the site, and every install is done by F-Gas qualified engineers.
Around Sandown, older cottages and newer houses can be very different to work on. Thick walls and beams mean planning the pipe route carefully, and a listed home needs consent before anything is fixed to it.
Looking after a system is mostly common sense: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Common questions in Sandown
Does sea air affect air conditioning in Sandown?
It can, as Sandown is within about 1 mile of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Do you cover smaller places like Sandown?
Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
What size air conditioning unit do I need?
Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count and the survey covers each of them.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. Each visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.
Air conditioning around Sandown
Sandown is within about 1 mile of the coast. That’s worth knowing for an install, as salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor coils and fixings, so we choose the position and fixings with that in mind. Central Sandown is inside a conservation area. Historic England lists about 7 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Sandown, including Christchurch (grade II). If your property is listed or sits inside a conservation area, expect us to raise planning at the survey and to speak to the local planning authority (typically Isle of Wight council) where it’s needed.
Morton Manor, about 1.5 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. Close to Sandown station? A small study or box room used for work can typically be cooled with a single indoor unit.

How it works
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. For businesses, we can normally work room by room or zone by zone. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access. Because we plan from photos or a survey, a job in Sandown can usually be finished in one visit.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
How to prepare
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Clear access to the fuse board
Getting a price
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To start, ring 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
Advice
What the work involves, system by system
Outdoor unit positions
We think about noise when we choose the spot: keeping it clear of bedrooms and boundaries where we can and fitted so vibration does not carry into the building. Position can also affect planning.
Ceiling cassettes
Cassettes need space above the ceiling and a route for the condensate, with a condensate pump where the drain cannot fall naturally. The survey confirms the void and the drain route.
Honest limits
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
- A room that cannot take an outdoor unit or pipe route without the landlord’s, management company’s or council’s consent (that consent comes first)
- A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
If in doubt, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will say what we think before booking.
