Air source heat pumps in Viables

A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. If the problem is no space for a hot water cylinder and checking emitters for a heat pump, we can sort it out.

Older homes around Viables can be draughty or have solid walls, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.

Looking after a system is mostly common sense: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. That also helps where the warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

The process

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Because we plan from photos or a survey, a job in Viables can normally be finished in one visit.

  1. First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
  2. We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
  3. You get our view on the right type for the house, and on whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. The job ends with commissioning, the MCS certificate and a walk through the controls.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Advice

FAQs for Viables

Is Viables within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Is the heat pump grant available in Viables?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Viables is in England, where it applies. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Which type of heat pump is right for my home?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling. The survey helps decide. We install both types.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.

How long does a heat pump installation take?

A typical installation takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We plan the work so you are without heating for as little time as possible, and we explain it in advance.

Do you provide F-Gas records?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while bigger systems and repairs that need testing get a visit.

Different systems, different jobs

VAT on heat pumps

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5% following HMRC’s rules on energy-saving materials. Businesses pay the standard rate.

Hot water cylinders

The cylinder size depends on how much hot water the household uses.

When to call us in Viables

Extensions, renovations and loft conversions are a natural time to rethink the heating. Pipework, radiators and space for a cylinder are easier to plan while work is going on.

Any of these is worth a proper look:

  • Comparing heat pump types
  • Finding a place for the outdoor unit
  • Wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating

With The Vyne about 3.9 miles north, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

Comparing quotes

  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
  • Whether they looked at the job before pricing it

Why act early in Viables

A heat pump sized without a proper heat loss survey can struggle in cold weather or run inefficiently. A room-by-room survey gets it right first time. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Why us?

  • NICEIC approved electrical contractors
  • MCS certified for heat pumps
  • One contact for properties across the South East and London
  • We diagnose before we treat
